A woman was injured in a west Phoenix shooting early Wednesday evening, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Officers responded to reports of a shot fired at the 6500 block of west Van Buren Street around 6:15 p.m. 

An ambulance was taking the woman to the hospital for treatment, Phoenix police Sgt. Jonathan Howard said.

The extent of the woman’s injuries is unknown. 

The circumstances of the shooting weren’t immediately clear, Howard said.
