A woman who caused a fatal high-speed collision in Mesa in 2014 has been sentenced to 14 years in prison and four years of probation upon her release.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge David Cunanan handed down the sentence Friday.

Ingrid Morataya, 38, who in January pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent homicide and one count of aggravated assault, drove her SUV at about 90 mph before crashing into a vehicle stopped at a red light at Recker and Brown roads on June 9, 2014, authorities said.

Guadalupe Madril, 37, and Jason Aguilera, 33, were killed instantly.

After the crash, Morataya got out of her car and “began acting extremely strange,” according to a court document. She started doing “yoga” and “calisthenics” on the sidewalk, the document said.

She was taken to a hospital where she was diagnosed to have broken a vertebrae.

The court record also states that Morataya told firefighters she was driving at 120 mph and told police that she had smoked marijuana that may have been laced with “something” the previous night.

Morataya had a history of driving under the influence and related convictions.
