Thousands of Arizonans are expected to attend memorial services for the late U.S. Sen. John McCain this week.

McCain will have two services in Arizona: He will lie in state at the Arizona Capitol on Wednesday, where members of the public can visit his casket. A formal funeral is scheduled for Thursday.

Here are some of the most commonly-asked questions about tributes to the senator.

Where will McCain’s casket be displayed?

McCain’s body will rest under the copper-domed rotunda at the old state Capitol building, located at 1700 W. Washington St. It’s not yet known what entrance the public will use to enter the building.

What hours can the public attend?

A private ceremony will be held in the Capitol rotunda at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Speakers will include Gov. Doug Ducey and other dignitaries.

Members of the public are invited to pay their respects during a public viewing from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The tribute will be livestreamed at johnmccain.com.

How long will the lines be?

Thousands of Arizonans are expected to attend. Be prepared to wait in line for an extended period of time. The line is likely to stretch outside, where there isn’t shade.

Where should I park?

Specific parking directions haven’t been released, but there are several free parking lots around the Capitol:

  • A large visitor parking lot is located directly west of the State Capitol Executive Tower, near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Jefferson Street.
  • Visitor parking spaces surround Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza, located directly east of the Capitol complex across 17th Avenue.

Parking will be extremely limited, so consider carpooling or using a ride-share service like Lyft or Uber. Information on local bus routes is available at valleymetro.org/maps-schedules.

How do I get there?

From the East Valley, take Interstate 10 west, exit at the 19th Avenue off-ramp. Turn south on 19th and proceed until you arrive at the Capitol complex between Washington and Jefferson streets.

From the West Valley, take Interstate 10 east, exit at the 19th Avenue off-ramp. Turn south on 19th and proceed until you arrive at the Capitol complex between Washington and Jefferson streets.

From north Phoenix, take Interstate 17 south, exit at the 23rd Avenue off-ramp. Turn east on Jefferson Avenue and proceed until the Capitol complex.

How can I get a ticket?

The portal to request tickets for McCain’s funeral service at has closed. Tickets to his service were gone within a few hours Sunday afternoon. Anyone who received a ticket will be notified by email.

Where is McCain’s funeral being held?

The 10 a.m. service will be held at North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N. Central Ave. Although tickets are no longer available, the public is expected to line nearby streets to observe to the senator’s funeral procession.
