A look at who stood out during Week 3 of the Arizona high school baseball season:
Ethan Hatch, Poston Butte, 3B/RHP, Jr.
He went 5 for 7 at the plate with a home run and six RBIs during a 3-0 week. He pitched a complete-game, no-hitter against Phoenix Barry Goldwater.
Justin Chambers, Gilbert Higley, P/OF/1B, So
He gave up two hits and one run, and struck out 14 and walked two in a 5-2 win over Gilbert Campe Verde He helped himself at the pate with a double, a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored. He is 3-0 with 31 strikeouts in 17 innings.
Treyton Tarver, Surprise Shadow Ridge, OF, Sr.
He went 5 for 5 and hit for the cycle, including a grand slam, in five innings against Phoenix Maryvale. Had eight RBIs and two doubles.
Nathan Ortiz, Tucson Sabino, 1B/RHP, Sr.
He had two saves against Pusch Ridge and knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning with a ground-rule double.
David Galindo, Phoenix St. Mary’s, P, So.
Pitched six innings, striking out 13, and went 3 for 4 at the plate.
Angel Cardenas, Tolleson, INF, Sr.
He went 7 for 9 in his team’s first week of the season, helping Wolverines to 3-0 start.
Jack Rogers, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, Sr.
He went 4 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs in two wins.
Jacob Anderson, Paradise Valle, RHP, Jr.
He threw 5 2/3 innings in a 3-0 win over Phoenix Arcadia, striking out 13 and walking two and giving up two hits. He hit a solo home run.
JJ Burgess, Goodyear Desert Edge, Sr.
He went 4 for 8 with a double, a triple, thee runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
Diego Foster, Tempe Prep, C, Jr.
In three games, he went 7 for 11 with a home run, six RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Cole Rotner, Tempe Prep, P/OF, So
Pitched complete-game, 3-0 win over Superior, throwing 82 pitches in seven innings, walking one and striking out seven, giving up five hits.
Nick Wojnarowski, Gilbert Christian, P, Sr.
He threw a complete-game, one-hitter against Mesa Eastmark, striking out 10 and throwing a total of 81 pitches.
Jake Dendy, Tempe Prep, P/SS, Jr.
In a win over Lincoln Prep, he struck out 10, walked three and gave up one earned run in 4 1/3 innings.
Connor Mattison, Waddell Canyon View, P, So.
He struck out eight and gave up no earned runs, walked none and smashed a three-run homer in a 12-2 win over Goodyear Millennium.
Rhett Wengert, Snowflake, CF, Jr.
He went 4 for 6 with three RBIs in a series against Winslow.
Ryan Caskey, Snowflake, P, Jr.
He threw complete-game 4-3 win over Winslow, allowing one earned run, two walks and struck out eight.
Gio Melchione, Mesa Desert Ridge, C, So.
The Gonzaga commit went 4 for 7 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. He is only returning starter from last season.
Chance Greene, Shadow Ridge, C, So.
He went 2 for 3 with two home runs against Kofa in Yuma.
Maguire Petersen, Notre Dame Prep, SS, Sr.
Went 4 for 6 with a double and three RBIs in a 2-0 win.
Max Zdimal, Notre Dame Prep, LHP/1B, Sr.
Went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs and pitched three innings, giving up one hit and one earned run with six strikeouts in a win over Glendale Cactus.
