Walgreens is expected to bring nearly 500 jobs to Chandler, including 191 new positions, as the company moves its pharmacy operations center from Tempe.

The Tempe facility will remain open as a mail-services support facility, the company said.

Walgreens will move 300 current positions from Tempe to the new 60,000 square-foot center in Chandler’s Price Road Corridor.

The 191 new jobs include pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other business and leadership roles, and will meet or exceed the Maricopa County 2017 median wage job, according to Walgreens.

Walgreens would not provide specifics on salaries for the new positions.

“The health care industry is a key part of Arizona’s diversified economy,” Gov. Doug Ducey said in a released statement. “Walgreens’ decision to grow its operations in our state will significantly contribute to the strength of that industry.”

The new facility is expected to be operational by the fall.
