Phoenix police arrested a man Saturday morning after suspecting him of fatally stabbing his mother after arguing about the family dog.

Police say 47-year-old Terry Driescher Jr. stabbed his 68-year-old mother in the driveway of their home near the 3900 block of East Willow Avenue around 10:12 a.m., according to Phoenix police.

Driescher’s mother, who remains unidentified as of Sunday morning, was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Phoenix police tried to talk to Driescher after he retreated into the home and later called SWAT to serve a search warrant. Officers found Driescher inside the home and arrested him, police said.

Driescher was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on a first degree murder charge.
