Tempe Police Department wants the public’s help to find a man who attacked an Arizona State University student Wednesday night.

According to a news release posted on Twitter, officers responded to the scene near Lemon Street and Terrace Road around 7:35 p.m. for a report of a woman who was attacked by a man.

Approximately 45 minutes before officers arrived, the woman said she was walking in the area when she was pushed from behind and fell to the ground, the release stated. Once she hit the ground, the man rolled her over and straddled her.

The man was touching the woman under her clothes when her screaming scared him away, according to the release.

The man was described as white, 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall, with short hair, and wearing a dark-colored tank top, blue jeans, black face mask and shoulder bag. He was last seen running east on Lemon Street.

Anyone with information was asked to call Tempe police at 480-350-8311.

Tempe police offered the following safety reminders:

  • Pay attention to your surroundings
  • If possible, walk/run in pairs or small groups
  • Walk/run in well lit, populated areas
  • Avoid focusing on electronic devices and limit use of loud headphones or earbuds
  • Immediately call 911 if you notice suspicious activity or behaviors
