Two people were arrested after a search through a west Phoenix neighborhood Wednesday morning for suspected carjackers, officials said.

A vehicle was stolen during a carjacking several days ago, said Bart Graves, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Officials identified the vehicle around 5:30 a.m. and attempted to pull it over, Graves said.

The vehicle fled and was soon involved in a non-injury collision near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street, Graves said.

The driver and the passenger then ran into a nearby neighborhood, prompting a search of the area. Phoenix police at the time said it was possible one of the suspects was armed.

Phoenix police officers and DPS troopers tracked the suspects, one a man and a woman, to a home near 41st Avenue and Van Buren, where they were arrested without incident, he said.

The suspects face a variety of charges including theft of a means of transportation, aggravated assault and carjacking, Graves said.

Further details on the carjacking were not available.
