In this day and age, any fan attending a national sporting event has the potential – and danger – to go viral by showing just about any type of emotion.
Wednesday night, cameras caught and lingered on a boy in an Arizona State jersey crying near the end of the Sun Devils’ First Four loss to Syracuse.
Naturally, Twitter did its thing.

This kid better get used to being an ASU fan. https://t.co/4SmVB9kTKk

Later that night, the ASU men’s basketball team provided some background.
It turns out the boy was Jacob, the son of ASU’s athletic trainer.
After a tough loss for both him and the Sun Devils, Jacob hugged every ASU player, including close friend Kodi Justice, as they returned to their hotel in Dayton, Ohio.
The young Sun Devil fan who appeared emotional at end of tonight’s broadcast is Jacob, the son of our athletic trainer. Jacob has been friends with Kodi for the past four years. Jacob gave each of our student-athletes a hug as they returned to the hotel tonight. pic.twitter.com/hOTNeWrnUR
