Camp confidential: Coach Steve Wilks celebrated his 49th birthday Wednesday, complete with the team wishing him a happy birthday on the Jumbotron and singing during a walk-through. Outside of that? “Nothing,” left tackle D.J. Humphries said. “Just going to give him a great practice this afternoon.” Either way, Wilks was more excited for Saturday, which will bring the first game of the preseason for his team. “I think those guys, Number 1, are ready to hit someone else,” Wilks said. “I think they’re eager. Those guys on the other side are trying to make an impression, as well, so it’ll be exciting.” … Wilks’ focus during the preseason game will mainly be watching for his players to separate themselves from each other, especially with the wide receivers. “If you guys can figure out who’s going to make our team at wide receiver, let me know,” joked special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers. Rodgers has gotten good looks at a lot of the wide receivers as they rotate through the gunner line during drills. … Quarterback Mike Glennon had the day off, which gave rookie free agent Charles Kanoff more reps with the third team. … NFL Network was out at Wednesday’s practice, with former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner getting to pick the brains of Sam Bradford and Josh Rosen. As for other cameras? Wilks would prefer to avoid HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” He did acknowledge that appearing on the show is not his decision but added that he’s not particularly a fan.

Injury report: WR Chad Williams was not a full participant because of some minor tendinitis in his knee. LB Deone Bucannon (knee) is day-to-day. TE Jermaine Gresham (Achilles’) and DE Markus Golden (knee) remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Quote: “Every year in the preseason, you’re trying to find out a lot more about the guys who haven’t played at this level. You take a guy like Budda Baker for instance. He was in the Pro Bowl last year. I’ve got a year’s worth on tape. I’ve seen him do really good things; I don’t need to see a whole lot during practice. We’re trying to evaluate the guys who haven’t played, some of the guys who are new to our system.” — Rodgers, on how they’re dividing reps for special teams

Up next: The team will have its last open practice before Saturday’s preseason game on Thursday from 8-10:40 a.m. at University of Phoenix Stadium. Gates open 30 minutes prior to the start of practice. Practice times are subject to change. Visit the team’s website for updates.
