A woman who barricaded herself inside a Scottsdale residence armed with a gun Friday was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot, police said.
The incident began shortly after noon, in the area of Hayden and Royal Palm roads, when the 29-year-old woman walked into a home and forced two construction workers to leave, police said.
Officers who initially responded were unable to establish contact with the woman inside, so a SWAT team was called, police said.
The SWAT team deployed a robot into the home, which allowed officers to find the woman, who was unconscious and suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Scottsdale police Sgt. Ben Hoster.
Police tweeted about 3 p.m. the situation had ended.
Hoster said the woman was a family friend of the homeowners, who were not there at the time. He added the woman had been arrested before on drug-related charges.
