The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said a San Tan Valley area man shot himself in the head after shooting his wife in the leg on Monday night.

The incident started about 7 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired at a house near West San Tan Heights and North Village Lane in San Tan Valley, police said.

Navideh Forghani, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, said in an email the husband and wife had been in an argument. At some point, Forghani said, the husband shot the woman in the leg. He then went out of the house and shot himself in the head, she said.

The wife was taken to a hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening injury, Forghani said. The husband was also transported to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, Forghani said.

She didn’t release any other details such as the identities of the man and woman. Forghani said the investigation is ongoing and more details could be released on Tuesday.
