Arizona State athletics has a school record 12 teams among the top 10 percent nationally in 2018-19 Academic Progress Rate scores.
ASU is second among Pac-12 schools for teams receiving NCAA APR high achievement recognition. Stanford is first with 16.
The NCAA announced its top 10 percent list Tuesday. Required scores are 985 to 1000.
ASU’s previous high was eight teams. The 12 teams recognized for 2018-19 are men’s and women’s basketball, beach volleyball, women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s gymnastics, women’s soccer, women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s water polo.
Women’s tennis has been recognized for all 15 years of the program. This is the sixth straight year for men’s golf and fourth for women’s golf and gymnastics.
“We have once again outdone ourselves with 12 teams in the top 10 percent of all of college athletics for APR scores,” ASU deputy athletic director Jean Boyd said. “We are determined to prepare balanced, well-rounded leaders who will impact our world and this recognition is evidence of our progress.”
APR scores for all Division I sports will be announced May 19.
