A Prescott man was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of killing his wife, who has been missing since last week, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said.

David Pagniano, 55, was arrested for investigation of one count of second-degree murder and placed in the Camp Verde Detention Center where he remains in custody, officials said in a press release.

Evidence collected in the prior 24 hours showed the man’s wife, Sandra Pagniano, 39, could have been harmed or even killed by her husband, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A missing-person’s report was made by a friend of the Pagnianos when Sandra Pagniano did not show up to a social gathering.

She has been missing since May 19.

The couple were separated but living together with two young children who are now under someone else’s care, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details were released.
