A portion of Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor Airport was closed off for more than an hour Wednesday night as police investigated a suspicious item, airport officials said.

Police were taking a closer look at an unattended bag on the west end of Terminal 4, said Sgt. Vince Lewis with Phoenix police.

The A and D security checkpoints were closed, according to a statement on Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s Twitter account posted about 9 p.m.

The terminal’s B and C checkpoints remained open.

Airport officials tweeted shortly after 10 p.m. that the situation was resolved and airport operations were returning to normal. By 10:15, all checkpoints and pickup areas were reopened.

Sky Harbor officials had been urging airport visitors to use the 44th Street and Washington Phoenix Sky Train Station link to the airport if possible for pickups and drop-offs.

Lewis said flights and normal operations should not be affected.
