What is a Silent Witness and how do you become one?

A 14-year-old boy remained hospitalized with a serious gunshot wound suffered Monday and investigators still are trying to determine how he was shot, Phoenix police said Tuesday.

Police responded to a call for an injured person near 99th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road about 4:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Officers said a boy was in the street with a significant leg injury..

Phoenix police on Tuesday said the boy was not being cooperative with investigators.

“Although the incident may have been accidental, detectives continue to search for evidence to determine if there is related criminal conduct,” said Phoenix police Sgt. Jonathan Howard.

Police said Monday that witnesses fled the scene before officers could speak with them.

Howard said anyone with information is asked to contact Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
