Authorities on Tuesday released the name of a man who was shot and killed by police after he aimed a gun at officers while fleeing Sunday night.

Officers spotted Fabian Ortiz Adame, 25, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee erratically in a Home Depot parking lot near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road shortly before midnight.

The officers were a part of a street-racing task force composed of Phoenix police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. They chased Adame when he refused to stop, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department.

Adame bailed on foot after driving to a mobile-home park and ramming an officer’s unmarked vehicle. Thompson said Adame pointed a gun at two officers who approached him, and one of the officers opened fire, striking and killing him.

Police officials say a 37-year-old officer with 13 years of service shot and killed Adame. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Arizona Republic has reported on 69 police shootings in Maricopa County this year.
