Mesa police were at the scene of a shooting involving an officer late Friday, officials said.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. near the QuikTrip gas station at Crismon Road and Southern Avenue in east Mesa, said Detective Nik Rasheta, a Mesa police spokesman.

No officers were injured, he said.

The shooting occurred as a football game at nearby Skyline High School was letting out and numerous students were leaving the campus, said Wendy Killeen, a Mesa resident who was going to the campus to pick up her son from the game and saw police activity.

“There were about 40 kids huddling together not knowing what was going on,” said Killeen, an employee of the The Arizona Republic newsroom. “The kids heard the gunfire.”

The campus is located on Crismon just north of the shooting scene.

No other details were immediately available from police.
