Phoenix police early Monday arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with a fatal home invasion in Apache Junction over the weekend, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said.

Aaron Ryan, 34, was arrested at around 2:45 a.m. during a traffic stop near Tatum Boulevard and Greenway Road in Phoenix, Sherrif’s Office spokeswoman Navideh Forghani said.

Ryan was driving a 2006 Nissan sedan with temporary tags and gave the officer false information during the stop, Forghani said.

When the officer asked Ryan to step out of the vehicle, Ryan pushed the officer and ran away from the scene, she said.

He was later taken into custody and booked on charges including aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest and possession of dangerous drugs.

Ryan previously was identified as a suspect in a Saturday morning home invasion near Tomahawk Road and the U.S. 60 in Apache Junction.

The homeowner was inside when two armed suspects entered, prompting a struggle that ended with the homeowner fatally shooting one of the suspects.

The man who was shot had not been identified as of Monday afternoon.

Ryan, who was identified as the second suspect, drove away from the home in a 2006 Toyota Sienna, Forghani said.

He is facing additional charges of armed robbery, burglary and assault stemming from that incident.

The sheriff’s office on Sunday said it was also searching for 36-year-old Rachael Ryan in connection with the home invasion. Forghani said the office was not releasing details on her involvement with the incident.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office at 520-866-5111.
