It can only be called relief after so many days over 115. But Phoenicians will take the bit of cooling on the way this week.

Sunday not only had a high temperature of 116, but also a low of 93, the warmest overnight temperature of the year, said Travis Wilson, meteorologist with the Phoenix National Weather Service.

The normal overnight temperature is around 80 degrees, he said.

Monday’s high will be 112, Wilson said. But, the weather will cool by a degree or two each day for the rest of the week.

The high temperature will be 107 by Thursday, possibly the coolest day of the work week.

There are showers and thunderstorms in the mountains of east Gila County, but Wilson said that by Tuesday the state will see drier air, all but eliminating the chance of rain in Phoenix.
