Phoenix Rising FC, struggling to find form of late, had a test on their hands against Tacoma Defiance.

Tacoma, in fourth place behind behind Phoenix in the Pacific Division standings, had yet to lose at home this season.

Rising didn’t take long to ring the bell, scoring on its first shot on goal just 40 seconds in the match on their way to a 3-1 win at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.

Phoenix is starting to regain early season form. It was their second win in a row after a frustrating August in which they finished 2-1-3.

With 11 games left, Rising, now 13-3-5 and, own a commanding 11-point lead over second-place San Diego Loyal. They next travel to LA Galaxy II at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.

Darren Mattocks scored twice in his first start. Santi Moar added an insurance goal via penalty kick in the 90th minute. The goal was his team-leading ninth of the season.
