Phoenix Rising FC exploded for three second-half goals, including two from Chris Cortez, on its way to a 4-1 win over the Portland Timbers 2 at Providence Park in Portland on Sunday.

Cortez scored in the eighth and 82nd minutes and is one goal off the USL lead with 11 on the season.

Phoenix kept pace with Orange County SC in the Western Conference standings, tied for second with 41 points and three points behind first-place Real Monarchs SLC.

Phoenix and Orange County will face off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.
