Police suspect a driver was impaired when he struck and killed a pedestrian early Thursday in Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, a 51-year-old man was walking on Osborn Road near 14th Street around 12:40 a.m. when a vehicle traveling west hit him.

The 37-year-old man driving the vehicle stayed at the scene.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries, Sgt. Jonathan Howard said.

Howard said driver impairment is suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
