A teenage girl was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition after being hit by a car Wednesday afternoon in Phoenix, police said.

She was struck around 5 p.m. in the intersection of 72nd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

The driver stayed at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, Lewis said.

Additional details were unavailable Wednesday night.

The investigation is ongoing.
