A Phoenix police officer and a prisoner suffered minor injuries after being involved in a rear-end collision Friday morning, officials said.

Just before 8:30 a.m., a Phoenix police patrol vehicle was stopped at a red light at 79th Avenue and Thomas Road when a truck hit it from behind, causing the patrol vehicle to crash into the vehicle in front of it, Sgt. Armando Carbajal said.

Carbajal said the patrol vehicle was transporting a prisoner at the time of the collision, but did not say why that person had been arrested.

One of the officers and the man in custody were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Carbajal said.

Impairment is not a factor in the accident, Carbajal said, and the investigation is ongoing.
