A planned closure of Interstate 10 eastbound was causing very long delays Saturday, and will likely continue to cause problems through the weekend.

The freeway is closed at 59th Avenue for bridge construction at the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. Interstate 10 eastbound on-ramps at 67th and 75th avenues are also closed.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials were warning drivers to avoid the area, if possible, and use Loop 101 northbound, U.S. 60 or Interstate 17 instead.

The freeway in this area will re-open at 5 a.m. Monday.
