Phoenix police say they observed impairment in a driver who might have hit a man and left the scene early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred in the intersection of 27th Street and Indian School Road around 2 a.m., according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with Phoenix police.

Fortune said witnesses reported the man crossing at the intersection when he was hit by a small, red vehicle. He was taken to the hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening, Fortune said.

Officers were able to locate a similar vehicle witnesses described near 42nd Street and Thomas Road. The driver was taken into custody, Fortune said.

She also said impairment was observed and might be a factor to the collision. The driver was arrested.
