The number of police shootings this year in Maricopa County is on par with previous years.

Officers intentionally discharged their firearms in 28 incidents from January through July of this year. There were 25 shootings by that time in 2016.

The bulk of these cases involve Phoenix police, the largest law-enforcement agency in the state. Phoenix police fired their weapons 9 times in this year.
