The PHH Prep (40-3)  girls basketball team capped off its inaugural season by beating Chandler Arizona Compass Prep to earn the first Grind Session girls basketball world championship.

The Dragons lost in their second meeting against PHH Prep this season, 73-35, closing the 12-team tournament at The PHHacility, PHH Prep’s home court in Phoenix.

PHH Prep senior forward/center Bridgets Mullings earned Player of the Game honors for her stonewall defensive effort and playmaking, producing 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 blocks and 1 assist. Her teammate Ally Stedman had the game-high 14 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.

“Very proud of all our young women. They put on a masterclass performance against a very game opponent,” PHH Prep head coach Milee Karre said in a text message. “Being with the Grind Session this year has been a huge blessing. Through a pandemic we were able to play great completion all year.”

PHH Prep’s blue team earned a bye through the championship round of the Grind Session playoffs by beating teams from seven different states, including BFL Prep (Seattle, Wash.), Centennial Bulldogs (Las Vegas, Nev.), AZ Compass Prep, Anchorage Christian (AK), Gilbert Arizona Elite Prep and Scottsdale Bella Vista Prep.

All of the Grind Session Bubble’s boys and girls seasons have been played at that The PHHacility since October because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the team’s one-year anniversary in March, Karre proudly had his program at the top of the fledgling girls basketball prep scene.

“This is the new wave and players who want to push themselves and seek the truth about what it takes to improve. This is the spot to be.”
