The first tremor in the College Football Playoff picture was felt Saturday with Oklahoma’s shocking loss to Iowa State. The Sooners, who had probably the best win of the season, now have the worst loss of any contender.

Left with no margin for error and the meat of their Big 12 season ahead, it’s hard to image they’ll get through unscathed.

That leaves the door open for Penn State. The Nittany Lions can walk through later this month with wins against Michigan and Ohio State, putting them in prime position to lock up their place in the field.

That’s how things stand now. There’s still time for Oklahoma and others to change things. As last weekend taught us, expect the unexpected.

Reminder: Some conferences may not fulfill their bowl allotment. Asterisks denote a replacement pick.
