A pedestrian has died after being hit by an SUV while crossing a street Thursday morning in Phoenix, officials said.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis, the crash occurred near 27th and Montebello avenues around 5:30 a.m. 

Lewis said a woman was crossing 27th Avenue when she was hit by a large SUV that was going north in the curb lane.

She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, according to Lewis, and showed no signs of impairment.

No citations were issued.
