Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Stephon Wright has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-4, 287-pounder will have four years of eligibility at his new school.

Wright, a product of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, has not seen much playing time due to injuries. Last season he served a a backup to junior Jermayne Lole at 3-technique tackle. He played in two games in the shortened season but did not record a tackle.

He had shoulder surgery during the offseason that prevented him from going through spring drills in March.

Wright was one of ASU’s most prized recruits in 2019. He boasted a four-star ranking and had been pegged the No. 18 strong side defensive end and No. 255 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite ranking.

He played sparingly in four games during his true freshman season in 2019, retaining his redshirt season. He was slowed by an injury to the other shoulder sustained during the high school season that eventually required surgery.

With his development slowed by the injuries, Wright likely would have been competing for  second-team reps with senior veteran Shannon Forman and redshirt  freshman Omarr Norman-Lott.
