Man at Mountain Valley Park fired several rounds from a handgun, town police say.

A man who fired several rounds at Prescott Valley officers conducting an investigation at a park Wednesday night was wounded after officers returned fire, police said.

The man, 33, is from Prescott Valley, said Sgt. Jason Kaufman, Prescott Valley police spokesman. He was reported to be in serious condition at a Phoenix hospital, Kaufman said.

About 10:59 p.m., a man fired several rounds from a handgun at officers who were conducting an investigation at Mountain Valley Park near the 8300 block of Loos Drive, Kaufman said.

The officers returned fire and took a man into custody in a neighborhood north of the park, Kaufman said.

The officers involved did not sustain serious injuries, Kaufman said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s special investigations unit will investigate the shooting for the Prescott Valley Police Department.
