Officers on Friday afternoon shot an armed 70-year-old man who was suspected of attacking his wife in a domestic-violence incident, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies and Chino Valley police officers located the man driving his blue van in Chino Valley just after 2:30 p.m. Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were told the man was armed and had threatened any law-enforcement officers who responded to the incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Personnel from both agencies assisted in initiating a traffic stop and the man eventually stopped in a parking lot, where he confronted law enforcement with a firearm and was shot, the Sheriff’s Office said, adding that both agencies were involved in the shooting.

He was transported to Yavapai County Regional Medical Center in Prescott and then flown to a Phoenix-area hospital for further treatment.

His condition was not available late Friday. The man’s identity was not released.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Officer-Involved Shooting Team is handling the investigation.

The names of the officers involved won’t be released for at least two days, the Sheriff’s Office said.
