Because nobody at ESPN realized that auctioning off mostly black NFL players to a group comprised mostly of white guys may be a tad problematic, the Worldwide Leader found itself embroiled in controversy on Tuesday.

This video of an auctioneer “selling” Odell Beckham during ESPN’s Fantasy Sports Marathon made the rounds on Twitter on Monday night and sparked fully-justified outrage because of its resemblance to a slave auction.

The video was brought to Beckham’s attention on Tuesday. The Giants star was none too pleased by ESPN’s auction segment.

This is where you might expect me to point out the events of the past weekend and how sensitivity to topics like this should be at an all-time high, but this would have been a terribly offensive idea regardless of what was going on in the news.

Update: NBA champ and Finals MVP Kevin Durant criticized ESPN for the segment.
