No. 16 Arizona State softball’s eight-game win streak ended Saturday with losses to No. 7 Florida and Notre Dame at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Florida scored three runs in the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 game. Madison Preston (4-1) was the losing pitcher, and ASU committed two errors.

Notre Dame broke on top 3-0 in the first two innings in a 7-3 win.

Maddi Hackbarth hit a two-run homer vs. the Irish. Cielo Meza (5-2) was the losing pitcher.

ASU fell to 12-4 and finishes weekend play vs. Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.

No. 16 ASU softball blasts eight home runs in Friday sweep

No. 16 Arizona State softball hit a combined eight home runs and scored a combined 29 runs Friday in two victories at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.

ASU won 14-2 over San Diego, scoring eight runs in the seventh inning, then beat New Mexico 15-0 in a five-inning run rule game, scoring seven in the first inning.

Jazmine Hill, Alynah Torres, DeNae Chatman, Kiara Kennedy and Halle Harger homered against New Mexico with Maddi Hackbarth, Torres and Hill going deep against San Diego.

ASU improved to 12-2 and is on an eight-game win streak going into its game Saturday against No. 7 Florida and Notre Dame.

No. 16 ASU softball crushes Auburn in Mary Nutter Classic opener

No. 16 Arizona State softball opened play at the Mary Nutter Classic with a 13-0 run-rule win over Auburn on Thursday.

ASU improved to 10-2 with its sixth consecutive win.

DeNae Chatman’s two-run homer in the second got the offense going. Chatman finished with four RBI while Kindra and Maddi Hackbarth each had three hits.

Madison Preston threw a five-inning shutout, limiting Auburn (8-4) to two hits. 

ASU plays San Diego and New Mexico in a Friday night doubleheader in Cathedral City, Calif., No. 7 Florida and Notre Dame on Satuday and Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
