Oh, come on Cardinals fans.
This one has to chap you a little, right? Experts setting the betting number at only 7.5 victories for your team in 2017?
I mean, last season didn’t go as planned, granted, but there were all kinds of reasons for that. (“All or Nothing” and its accompanying arrogance didn’t help.)
But the South Point Hotel and Casino Sports Book has the Cardinals’ over/under number for 2017 regular-season victories at 7.5.
Seven and a half? You mean, this Super Bowl contender needs to win only eight games for the optimistic Birdgang to cash? Were the bookmakers not enamored of the Arizona draft process – one that, of course, thrilled those among the brain trust making those selections?
Let’s take a look at the the NFC West
First, the annoying Seahawks are at 10.5. They traded twice – all the way out of the first round – and drafted big on defense, including the second pick of the second round, Malik McDowell. He’s a defensive tackle from Michigan State whose motor, apparently, does not always run at full capacity.
The Cardinals’ top two picks, Haason Reddick and Budda Baker, as you surely know, have motors that reportedly never stop. So, 7.5 wins? Well, it must be due to facing the Seahawks twice.
Wait. The Cardinals tied Seattle in Glendale, then beat them in Seattle.
So the Rams and 49ers, which make up a full one quarter of the Cards’ schedule – two games against both teams – must be greatly improved. What do you say, Vegas?
Rams, 5.5 wins; 49ers, 4.5 wins.
How the Cardinals stack up with the rest
Following an incredibly disappointing 7-8-1 season in 2016, the Cardinals should be a solid investment.
That is not, in any way, meant to be an endorsement by me – or by anyone at my workplace, of course.
But I’m giving an envelope to a mule, er, a friend who’s headed to Las Vegas, and telling them to stop by the South Point Sports Book.
Here are the top and bottom betting numbers for total victories in the 2017 regular season:
More NFL Draft: Cardinals (mostly) shine with selections
More NFL Draft: ASU kicker Gonzalez chosen in 7th round
More Cardinals: Cards address present, plan for future on draft’s final day
