The motorcyclist killed Saturday evening after colliding with a pickup truck performing a U-turn was identified Sunday morning by Phoenix police.

While riding his motorcycle on North Seventh Street at approximately 5 p.m., 40-year-old Brett Johnson struck a pickup truck just north of Mountain View Road, police said. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Initial reports indicated Johnson had sustained severe injuries. He was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and died at the hospital, police said.

Police did not believe impairment was a factor in the crash but were determining whether there would be any charges for the driver of the truck.

The intersection of Seventh Street and Mountain View Road was closed for several hours while detectives investigated the incident.
