Events on Thursday in remembrance of the late U.S. Sen. John McCain’s life include a public procession, a memorial service and a final flight to Washington, D.C.

Events and times

About 9 a.m., Cindy McCain and her family were expected to arrive at the Arizona Capitol. McCain’s casket will be carried out of the Capitol by Arizona National Guard personnel, and a motorcade to North Phoenix Baptist Church will follow. Departure time is estimated at 9:15 a.m.

The motorcade route:

  • Northbound 17th Avenue to Westbound Adams Street.
  • Westbound Adams to northbound Interstate 17.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 to eastbound Camelback Road.
  • Eastbound Camelback Road to northbound Central Avenue.
  • Northbound Central Avenue to second church driveway. The church is located at 5757 N. Central Ave.

The memorial service, which is scheduled to include a tribute by former Vice President Joe Biden, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

After the service, the motorcade will take McCain’s body to Goldwater Air National Guard Base at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

After a short military ceremony, McCain’s body will be flown to Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.

He will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.
