Goodyear Millennium has suspended summer football workouts for the rest of this week after one of the player’s family members tested positive for COVID-19, district superintendent Dennis Runyan said.

Millennium is part of the Agua Fria Union High School District and plays in 6A.

The school is in its third week of phasing back in football with conditioning workouts to get ready for the 2020 football season.

Head coach Lamar Early and Athletic Director Remigio Gordillo did not respond to messages .

“We are monitoring this situation and attempting to get a level of confirmation with the family involved,” Runyan said in an email. “The tracing process worked in this situation and we are following AIA and CDC guidelines.”

Runyan said he expects Millennium to return to football conditioning workouts next Monday.

“The program would be able to reopen after the precautionary cleaning and timeline protocols are followed,” he said. “The fall athletic programs under AIA’s Phase 1 reopening protocols and direction have provided a good opportunity to support community and learn together when attempting to manage and offer the safest possible environment.

“As you can imagine this is challenging leadership work for all administrators, coaches, and players.”
