Police detained two people suspected of shooting at officers in east Mesa Wednesday afternoon, according to Detective Richard Encinas, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department.

Around 3:30 p.m., officers were working in the area of 80th Street and Baseline Road for their Summer Crime Suppression Project, when a vehicle drove by and fired at the officers, Encinas said.

An officer described seeing possible suspects running from the vehicle, Encinas said.

Other officers responded and created a perimeter around the scene and located two people they suspected of being involved, said Encinas, who earlier Wednesday said three people were detained but corrected it to two.

No one was injured and police did not fire their weapons during the incident, Encinas said.

Police say the situation is still active and no other information is readily available.
