Rick and Morty fan? Then you know about Rick’s obsession with McDonald’s Szechuan sauce.
Wochit

If you were hoping to snack on McDonald’s coveted szechuan sauce — you’re out of luck … and nobody’s very happy about it.

The burger chain re-released the limited-time condiment as a promotion for their newest menu it, Buttermilk Crispy Tenders.

But re-release may be too generous a word.

In the Valley, the packets were only available at two Tempe locations:

  • 1785 E. University Drive
  • 1205 S. Rural Road

Packets were available in two locations outside the Valley, one in Flagstaff and one in Tuscon.

The problem

Each location had a very limited quantity – and by limited we mean a couple dozen packets. Both locations ran out in minutes.

It’s safe to say that apology was not enough for many.

Another resurfacing?

McDonald’s originally released the sauce June 1998 as a limited-time condiment for the Disney animated movie “Mulan.”

As Mushu would say: Dishonor on you. Dishonor on your cow.

Could the sauce resurface again for the rumored Mulan live-action remake? Some are hopeful.

‘Rick and Morty’ fans hit the hardest

Szechuan Sauce popped up in the animated show ‘Rick and Morty’ during the Season 3 premiere in April, when main character Rick Sanchez goes back “to the day it all began” in his memory when he could still order Szechuan Sauce and taste it one more time.

He then goes crazy at the end of the episode, yelling that he wants that “Mulan McNugget sauce” and it will take nine more seasons or 97 years.

Fans of the cartoon network series were pretty disappointed with McDonald’s lackluster homage to the show. Naturally, they took to Twitter to express it.

There’s always Wendy’s…

After McDonald’s embaressing flop, many turned to a familiar burger neighbor for consoling.

Wendy’s thoughts? Not impressed.
