Mandatory evacuations orders had been lifted as of 2 p.m. for the Arizona community of Mayer after creek waters subsided to safe levels following heavy rain from a monsoon storm.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, mandatory evacuations were in effect part of Friday for residents near Big Bug Creek, an hour’s drive north of Phoenix.

Residents had been advised to grab necessities and report to the shelter set up at Mayer High School, 17300 E. Mule Deer Drive.

The Sheriff’s Office also warned residents to move away from low ground because the heavy rains over the Goodwin Fire scar could trigger “life threatening flash floods and debris flows in and downstream of the fire area.”
