A man was found standing on top of the roof of his car in a Mesa canal when he was rescued by fire crews Monday morning, the Mesa Fire Department said.

The man was driving near Broadway Road and Val Vista Drive when the car veered into the canal, around 11 a.m., fire officials said.

The man was uninjured, officials said. The  car slowly drifted to firefighters who arrived at the scene, and they were able to assist him off his car, the fire department said.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to help him off the roof of his car and up onto the embankment, according fire officials.

Crews were able to extract the car from the canal a few hours later.

Police are investigating the accident. No further details were available.
