A man whose car veered off the road near Canyon Lake and slid into the water Saturday night was able to escape with minimal injuries, officials released.

The man was driving on State Route 88 when he lost control on a curve, causing his car to fall down the embankment and into the lake at about 11 p.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Troopers said the man pulled himself out of the water. Officials don’t believe there were other passengers in the car.

Troopers are investigating whether the driver was impaired.
