DeCarlos Jones Initial Appearance. He was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after he allegedly killed and decapitated a puppy.

A Phoenix man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after police said he killed and decapitated a puppy.

DeCarlos Jones, 29, is accused of killing Bella, a 6-month-old puppy that he shared with his girlfriend.

Police said Jones got home from work Tuesday and took Bella out of her cage to take her on a walk, but the puppy started urinating inside the house.

Jones got angry, according to court documents. He took Bella into the bathroom and slammed her against the tub and then stabbed the puppy until she was no longer breathing, police allege.

He then decapitated Bella and placed the dog’s head on the living room table, facing him while he ate his dinner, police allege in court documents.

Police arrested Jones on Wednesday morning.

Jones later told police that he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument over her talking to another man at work. He also said he has PTSD and bipolar disorder, according to court documents.

In his initial appearance before a Maricopa County judge, his bail was set at $5,000. The conditions of his release said he could not return to the scene, and he is prohibited from owning or taking care of any animals.

His next court appearance is Sept. 27.
