Ticket-buyers for the Desert Botanical Garden’s popular Las Noches de las Luminarias donated $3,081 for Season for Sharing this season.
“We believe Season for Sharing makes our community stronger, and we try to do our part to help the campaign succeed each year,” said Ken Schutz, the garden’s executive director. And to those who gave: “Thank you for being so generous and for caring about other people. The world needs more people like you.”
Attendees of the annual holiday event were given the opportunity to donate to Season for Sharing when they checked out. Season for Sharing is the annual charitable giving campaign sponsored by The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com. The main fundraising period runs from mid-November to Jan. 31 each year.
Last year, Season for Sharing raised and gave away $2.2 million to 153 Arizona non-profits that help children and families, assist older adults, and support teachers and students. This year’s fundraising totals will be announced in a few weeks.
“Season for Sharing would not be able to help as many of our neighbors in need without support from the Garden and our community partners,” said Stacy Sullivan, who oversees the annual Season for Sharing campaign for The Republic and azcentral.
Other partners include the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Dig It Gardens and the Gannett Foundation.
Las Noches de las Luminarias ran through December. Each evening featured more than 8,000 hand-lit luminaria bags, thousands of twinkle lights and a sound and light show called “Electric Desert, A Light and Sound Experience by the Klip Collective.”
The Electric Desert light show continues through May 12.
