LSU is expected to announce VCU coach Will Wade as its next basketball coach, a person with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke under the condition of anonymity because neither school had announced anything publicly.

ESPN and CBS Sports reported the agreement to be a six-year deal.

Wade, 34, is one of the youngest coaches in college basketball and piloted the Rams to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances after taking over for Shaka Smart, who left for Texas in 2015. Previously, he was the head coach of Chattanooga for two seasons.

He went 51-20 at VCU, which bowed out of the NCAAs in a first-round loss to Saint Mary’s this March.
