A Phoenix elementary school was closed Friday for repairs after lightning struck a transformer there during Thursday night’s monsoon storm.

Osborn School District said on its Facebook page that no one was injured and that the fire did not spread to the interior of Longview Elementary School, near 12th Street and Indian School.

The transformer fire knocked out power to the buildings, prompting district officials to close the school Friday.

“Although we do not currently have power, once the transformer is replaced we will be able to resume school,” according to the Facebook post. “We apologize for any inconvenience this storm damage and our school closure may cause your family.”

School was expected to resume as normal Monday.
