Authorities have identified the Lake Havasu City man who turned himself in to Quartzsite police Saturday, saying he’d committed a murder.

Enrique Reyes, a 58-year-old Lake Havasu City resident, showed up at the Quartzsite Police Department with a handgun around 9:45 a.m. Saturday and told officers he had murdered a man in Lake Havasu City the day before, Lake Havasu City police said Monday.

He was driving a vehicle registered to an address in Lake Havasu City. When officers arrived at the residence, they found a man dead in the living room, police said.

The victim, 63-year-old Paul Smith of Lake Havasu City, had been shot at least once and stabbed, officials said. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Police said that, based on Reyes’ interview, there doesn’t appear to be a motive other than an argument that escalated.

The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office has custody of Reyes until he is extradited to Mohave County, where officials say he will face murder charges.
